File-interface Deduplication System (FDS)

Overview

FalconStor File-interface Deduplication System (FDS) offers an easy-to-deploy, easy-to-manage capacity-optimized storage (COS) repository. FalconStor FDS helps you minimize online storage capacity reductions for backup and archiving applications. Capacity requirements for disk-to-disk (D2D) backup applications can be reduced by as much as 20 times or more by eliminating data redundancies resulting from backup operations. With FalconStor FDS you can retain more data online, longer, for quicker data restores.

In addition, FalconStor FDS replication technology enables cost-effective disaster recovery (DR) by sending only unique, deduplicated data across the WAN, significantly reducing bandwidth requirements and costs. Flexible deployment options range from a small-footprint virtual appliance model for remote and branch offices, to a gateway model that can scale up to multiple petabytes of logical storage capacity at the main data center.

Easy Deployment
FalconStor FDS is qualified to seamlessly work with all major D2D backup and archiving applications by presenting a file share. This ease of integration allows for a seamless deployment into the existing storage infrastructure, with little or no change to current D2D backup applications or to file and data archiving processes.

High-performance Backup
FalconStor FDS was built with performance in mind. Its post-processing and concurrent block-level deduplication technology is optimized to ingest backup data without affecting backup speed.

Flexible Deduplication Processes
FalconStor FDS provides policy-driven data deduplication processes. Deduplication processes can be set by the user to start immediately after files are received, or data can be staged without deduplication for a set period of time. This flexibility accommodates different operations that may be more efficient on non-deduplicated data such as data copying, restore operations, or other operations such as data mining or database testing.

High-performance Restores
FalconStor FDS is optimized to enable high-performance data access for both deduplicated and non-deduplicated data. This allows for quick backup and data restore processes when needed.

Multi-site DR
FalconStor FDS offers global deduplication for quick, cost-effective, and secure DR. Connecting remote offices via FalconStor FDS appliances allows organizations to eliminate tape shipments between sites and ensure data is readily available online when needed. FalconStor FDS is enabled with intelligent global data replication technology; unique data is only sent once from one of the replication sites to the main data center.

Enhanced Security
By eliminating physical tape shipments, FalconStor FDS protects valuable corporate data from being accessed in the event of tape theft or loss. Data encryption is added during replication to ensure the highest level of data security and privacy.
