Enhanced Data Protection (EDP)

Pillar Data Systems’ Enhanced Data Protection (EDP) products deliver an extremely flexible suite of backup and recovery solutions to protect application servers in medium and large organizations. Pillar EDP replaces conventional, slow tape-based solutions with the industry's fastest, most granular recovery solution for mission-critical databases, messaging data, files, and even entire systems in the event of hardware or software failures and site-level disasters. With Pillar EDP, you can replace or enhance your existing backup solution with continuous journaling and any-point-in-time recovery, to protect data between regularly scheduled backups, minimize data loss, and keep business going during planned or unplanned outages.

Application Aware Data Recovery with Pillar EDP

  • Supports VMWare's Site Recovery Manager (SRM)
  • Recover files and databases in 1 minute
  • Mailbox recovery in 3 minutes
  • Physical-to-physical (P2P) recovery in 5 minutes
  • Physical server-to-virtual machine (P2V) recovery in 10 minutes
  • Recover entire site in 30 minutes

Highlights

  • Integrates with Pillar’s Application-Aware storage environment and offers massive scalability
  • Moves data via high-performance SAN (iSCSI, Fibre Channel [FC])
  • Achieves or exceed RPO and RTO objectives, to optimize productivity and service levels
  • Ensures 100% transactional consistency and point-in-time integrity with Application-Aware Snapshot

Agents

  • Quickly and intelligently rolls back to any point in time
  • Creates an accessible, mountable delta snapshot image to create multiple and instantaneous virtual copies of an active data set for temporary use
  • Minimizes replication and compression technology minimizes network bandwidth requirements
  • Quickly and easily archives to tape using HyperTrac™ Backup Accelerator
  • Protects heterogeneous DAS, NAS and SAN environments
  • Offloads backup overhead from production hosts; eliminates backup windows
  • Integrates storage virtualization, mirroring, and active-active failover for high availability
  • Protects remote offices by enabling them to maintain a current copy of their data at a central data center

Features

Pillar’s EDP suite can support all of your replication and continuous data protection requirements across multiple applications and multiple heterogeneous storage arrays.

Heterogeneous Storage Support

Supports any-to-any replication among multiple vendor storage systems.
Source and target storage systems can be from different vendors so you can preserve your existing storage investment. You can also deploy cost-effective storage at secondary sites to control storage replication costs.

Multiple Modes of Transfer Defined by Policy

Our advanced architecture enables multiple modes of bidirectional replication. This allows you to enable synchronous, near synchronous, or asynchronous data copies.

Variable levels of Recovery Point Objectives (RPO) can be defined for individual applications (Exchange / Oracle Financials / SQL) based on your business requirements. The system dynamically adapts to changes in available bandwidth and I/O workload.

Flexible Connections, Unlimited Distances Capabilities

Leverages both IP and Fibre Channel networks, allowing for local and long-distance data replication.
Pillar’s EDP suite provides a Fibre Channel to IP connection, mitigating the need for additional edge connection and protocol conversion hardware.

WAN optimization technologies

Incorporates intelligent bandwidth conservation techniques to reduce the amount of data sent over the network. Application-aware and storage-aware algorithms are used to conserve bandwidth better than traditional compression techniques, resulting in 7-12 times compression on transferred blocks.Incorporates intelligent bandwidth conservation techniques to reduce the amount of data sent over the network.

AxiomONE Continuous Data Protection (CDP) - Allows customers to recover to any point in time on target sites. This is especially important in rolling disaster situations where replicated corruption events can lead to un-recoverable data.

Transparent to Applications - Has no performance impact on applications, due to its out-of-band appliance model deployment.

Guaranteed Data Consistency - Maintains data integrity and write-order fidelity despite the failure of hosts, storage, and WAN connections. This reduces the Recovery Time Objective (RTO) for critical data to minutes instead of hours or days, thereby avoiding unforeseen corruption issues that can cause missed RTO windows.

Instant Direct Access to Replicated Image - Direct read/write access to a secondary site allows immediate access to replicated data without first requiring an intermediate or additional copy. This supports robust Disaster Recovery (DR) testing, failover, and fail-back capabilities to reduce management and operational costs over competing solutions.

Seamless Integration With User Applications - Database and application consistency group protection is very important in database environments. Pillar EDP products seamlessly integrate with databases using Microsoft VSS support and database consistency techniques to ensure that applications (Exchange, SQL Server, Oracle, etc.) are recoverable in a transaction-consistent state.
